Overview

Neopets is one of the oldest virtual pet sites, launched in November 1999. Players adopt and care for pets in the fantasy world of Neopia, which is divided into themed lands with their own shops, games and characters. After years under Viacom and JumpStart, the site has been run since 2023 by World of Neopia, Inc., which has said most of its team now works on fixing and upgrading the classic site.

Daily play is a loop of dailies, minigames, quests and shopping. Neopoints, the main currency, come from games and from running a player shop, and they buy food, toys, books and battle gear. Players can collect avatars and trophies, fight in the Battledome, and take part in story plots and seasonal events.

The player economy runs through shops, trading posts and auctions, and the community gathers on the boards and in guilds. Neopets is free to play; Neocash bought with real money is spent in the NC Mall on wearables and cosmetic items, and an optional premium membership is also offered.
