Overview

Gaia Online is an anime-influenced social site that started in 2003 and is run by Gaia Interactive. Its core is the avatar: every member has a customizable character, and collecting clothing, accessories and rare items to dress it is the main long-term goal.

Members earn the free currency through forum activity, minigames and daily rewards, and spend it in NPC shops or on the marketplace, where players buy and sell items with each other. Alchemy turns formulas into items, and the site also offers jigsaw puzzles, avatar contests, companion pets and a light kin-battling feature. Features from earlier eras are kept in a legacy section.

The forums and guilds remain the heart of the community, with roleplay, art and general discussion. Gaia is free to join and shows ads; Gaia Cash bought with real money is spent in the cash shop on premium items, and an optional supporter subscription adds perks.
