MapleStory

A long-running 2D side-scrolling MMORPG with a large class roster, heavy boss content and a newer Classic World server.

Overview

MapleStory is a side-scrolling fantasy MMORPG drawn in a bright, cartoon style. Players pick from dozens of classes, each with its own story line, and level through platforming maps by fighting large numbers of monsters with skill combos.

At higher levels the game centers on scheduled boss fights, gear enhancement and frequent limited-time events that add new content and catch-up systems. Guilds, parties and player trading round out the social side, and the game also offers a separate Classic World that recreates its earlier style of play with party quests and a reduced class list.

The game is free to play. Nexon sells cosmetic items, convenience items and enhancement-related goods in its cash shop. It first launched in South Korea in 2003 and reached North America in 2005, and Nexon still ships large updates several times a year.
