Overview

Threshold RPG is a real-time fantasy MUD where staying in character is mandatory outside designated out-of-character spaces. It opened to the public in June 1996 and describes itself as the oldest roleplay-enforced MUD still running.

Players pick a race and one of many guilds, such as bards, clerics, mages, necromancers, paladins, psions and thieves, and can follow one of the world's religions. Clans, laws, an economy and quests give characters ways to shape the world, and staff run regular events.

Threshold is owned by Frogdice and is free to play, with optional purchases. It offers an official browser client, and desktop clients can connect to thresholdrpg.com on port 3333. A tutorial video on the site walks new players through character creation.
