Overview

Alter Aeon is a text fantasy MUD in which characters combine mage, cleric, thief, warrior, necromancer and druid classes through a multiclassing system, so builds can be tailored as the character grows.

The world holds over 400 areas and more than 1,000 quests and storylines, from elemental planes to haunted tombs. Players can group up, brew, carve, craft and enchant items, and use built-in aliases and equipment sets. The game is known for accessibility: it offers a blind-friendly client with screen reader support, sounds and music.

Alter Aeon has been running since the mid-1990s and is free to play, supported by donations. Official launcher clients are available for Windows and Mac, and any MUD client can connect to alteraeon.com on port 3000.
