Ancient Anguish

Free medieval fantasy LPMud open since 1992, with 11 classes, 8 guilds, a skill system and a long player history.

Overview

Ancient Anguish is a text fantasy MUD that opened to the public in February 1992. It keeps a consistent medieval theme and runs on the Amylaar LPMud driver.

Characters choose from 11 classes, such as artificer, jaochi, necromancer, shapeshifter and soulbinder, and five races, and can join one of eight guilds with their own abilities. A skill system covers 17 weapon types, and thousands of items and armors support long-term character building. The site tracks player rankings, a hall of fame, and lets players keep blogs and profiles.

The game is free and has been funded by player donations since 1994. Players connect with telnet or a MUD client to ancient.anguish.org on port 2222, and the site lists who is online.
