Genesis MUD

The first LPMud, created in Sweden in 1989 and still running as a free fantasy text adventure with races, guilds and crafting.

Overview

Genesis was created in April 1989 by Lars Pensjö at Chalmers University in Sweden as the first game built on his LPMud driver, which went on to power many later MUDs. It is still online and still free.

The world spans several domains with distinct themes. Players choose from more than ten races and sub-races, then define their character through occupational, layman and racial guilds, crafts and clubs, building a mix of abilities and identity. Exploration, quests and combat drive advancement, and rankings track notable players.

Genesis can be played in the official web client on desktop and mobile browsers, or with a MUD client at mud.genesismud.org, port 3011. It is supported by donations through Patreon, and its site hosts guides, world lore and forums for new players.
