EVE Online

A single-shard space MMO of mining, industry, trade and fleet warfare, where player alliances and markets shape a galaxy of thousands of star systems.

Overview

EVE Online is a science fiction MMO set in New Eden, a cluster of more than 7,000 star systems shared by every player on one server. Pilots fly ships rather than walking avatars, and skills train in real time whether or not you are logged in.

Careers are open-ended: mining, manufacturing, hauling, market trading, exploration, piracy and missions all feed a player-run economy in which nearly every ship and module is built by someone. Losses are permanent, so wars have real economic weight, and large alliances fight for control of null-security space in battles that can involve thousands of players.

The game, made by the Icelandic studio formerly called CCP Games (now Fenris Creations), is free to start as an Alpha clone. Omega status, about $20 a month, unlocks the full skill tree and faster training; PLEX can be bought with money and traded in game.
