EverQuest

The 1999 fantasy MMORPG that shaped the genre, still receiving expansions, with group-focused play across Norrath and time-locked progression servers.

Overview

EverQuest is set in the world of Norrath and was one of the games that defined the 3D MMORPG in the late 1990s. More than twenty-five years later it still receives yearly expansions, and many zones from across its history remain in use.

Play centers on grouping: classes have clear roles, and most leveling and dungeon content is built for parties that cooperate on pulls, crowd control and healing. Long-term goals include alternate advancement abilities, raids, tradeskills and gear progression. Mercenaries can fill missing group slots.

Besides the main live servers, Daybreak runs progression servers that unlock old expansions on a schedule, letting players relive the game's history in order. The game is free to play with restrictions, and the All Access membership removes most of them. Player housing, guild halls and a bazaar for trading are part of the game.
