Fallen London

A browser-based narrative game set in a gothic Victorian London that sank beneath the earth, told through card-driven choices and stat checks.

Overview

Fallen London, originally called Echo Bazaar, is a browser-based interactive story from Failbetter Games that has run since 2009. Thirty years before the game begins, London was stolen and carried underground to the shore of a vast subterranean sea, where the dead rarely stay dead and devils trade in souls.

Play is built on short sessions. Actions regenerate over time and are spent on storylets drawn from location decks and opportunity cards. Choices test qualities such as Watchful, Shadowy, Dangerous and Persuasive, and the results raise stats, change your character's reputation and unlock longer story arcs and ambitions.

It is largely a solo story, but players share a world, send each other social actions and compete in some events. The game is free to play; Fate bought with money unlocks extra stories, and the optional Exceptional Friendship subscription adds monthly content.
