OGame

One of the oldest browser strategy games: build up planets, research technology and launch fleets against rival empires in real time.

Overview

OGame is a space strategy game from Gameforge, first released in 2002 and still running in a web browser. Each player starts on a home planet in a shared universe and builds an interstellar empire across additional colonies and moons.

The core loop is upgrading mines and power plants for metal, crystal and deuterium, researching technologies, and building ships and defenses. Everything happens in real time, so building queues and fleet flights can take hours. Fleets attack other players to steal resources, recycle debris fields after battles, and need to be kept safe while you are offline. Lifeforms, a later addition, add a further layer of research and bonuses.

Alliances coordinate attacks and defense, and many separate universes exist with different speeds and rules. OGame is free to play; Dark Matter bought with real money pays for officers, convenience features and speed-ups.
