Old School RuneScape began in 2013 as a restoration of RuneScape from an August 2007 backup and has since grown into its own live game. It is set in the fantasy world of Gielinor and keeps the original's point-and-click movement, tick-based combat and simple graphics.
There are no classes. Characters train two dozen skills such as Mining, Fishing, Cooking, Slayer and Magic, complete long quest lines, and take on bosses and raids. The Grand Exchange drives a large player economy, and modes such as Ironman remove trading for those who want to be fully self-sufficient. New content generally ships only after it passes an in-game poll of players.
A limited area is free to play; membership, about $14.99 a month, opens most of the map and skills. The same account plays on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android with cross-platform play.
