Overview

Lineage II is a fantasy MMORPG set on the continent of Aden, first launched in South Korea in 2003 and in North America in 2004. Players choose a race and class, level through open hunting zones and dungeons, and later take on dual classes, raid bosses and cross-server zones added by recent updates.

Much of the game revolves around clans. Groups compete for castles in sieges, fight over territory and hunting spots, and settle disputes through open-world PvP, while a player-driven economy supports trading and crafting. Updates still arrive regularly, and North America opened a fresh Live server in September 2026.

The game has been free to play in the West since late 2011. In North America, NCSOFT runs it with an in-game store and says the Live servers have no premium accounts. In Europe it is published by Innova on the 4game platform, which adds an optional paid premium account with experience and drop bonuses. Separate rulesets such as Classic and Essence run alongside the main game.
