Overview

Anarchy Online takes place on Rubi-Ka, a desert planet where a mining corporation called Omni-Tek fights a rebel faction known as the Clans, with a neutral population caught between them. It launched in 2001 and was one of the first science fiction MMORPGs.

Characters choose a breed and one of many professions, and progression relies heavily on skills, implants and nano programs that have strict requirements. Planning and twinking gear to meet those requirements is a large part of the game. Missions can be generated on demand, and instanced dungeons, alien invasions in the Shadowlands and Lost Eden expansions add later content.

Players can own apartments and organizations can control land through notum wars, a form of territory PvP. The game is free to play up to the base content, with a subscription that unlocks expansions and higher levels.
