Aion

NCSOFT's 2008 winged-combat MMORPG, where Elyos and Asmodians fight each other and the Balaur in the contested Abyss.

Overview

Aion is a fantasy MMORPG set on Atreia, a world split in two after a cataclysm. Players choose between the Elyos of the light half and the Asmodians of the dark half, and each faction has its own capital, story and starting zones.

At an early level characters gain wings, and flight is a core part of both exploration and combat. Progression follows a class tree, quests, instanced dungeons, crafting and an extensive gear enchanting system. The Abyss and later contested zones bring the two factions together for fortress sieges and open PvP, with a third non-player race, the Balaur, attacking both sides.

This entry covers the original Aion live service in North America and Europe, separate from Aion Classic and the newer Aion 2. It is free to play, and an optional Gold Pack and in-game store sell convenience and cosmetic items.
