Overview

Champions Online is a superhero MMORPG set in Millennium City and other locations from the Champions pen-and-paper RPG. Players design a hero from scratch and fight villains, alien invasions and supernatural threats.

The character creator is the main draw: it offers a very large set of costume parts and colors, and players can save several looks for one hero. Powers can be mixed across sets rather than locked to a single class, though archetypes offer simpler prebuilt options. Day-to-day play includes open-world zone events, adventure packs, comic series story arcs and lairs for small groups.

The game is free to play with Silver accounts and archetypes, while the optional Gold subscription unlocks freeform builds and more slots. A store sells costume packs, travel powers and lockbox keys. Supergroups act as guilds, and there are PvP arenas.
