Dofus

A French tactical MMORPG with turn-based, grid-based combat and a large player-driven economy, now rebuilt on the Unity engine.

Overview

Dofus is a fantasy MMORPG from French studio Ankama, set in the World of Twelve. All fights are turn-based and take place on a grid, so positioning and spell choice matter more than reflexes. Players choose from 19 classes with distinct attacking, healing, tanking and positioning roles.

Outside combat, players gather resources, practice professions and craft most of the gear in the game, which feeds a busy player economy. Guilds and alliances compete over territory, and there is both open-world and arena PvP.

The game has moved to a new Unity-based client with redone graphics, animations and interface. A free account gives limited access, and a subscription unlocks most of the world; Ogrines can also be bought. Ankama first released Dofus in France in 2004 and in English the following year, and it remains one of the studio's main games.
