Overview

Final Fantasy XIV is set in Eorzea and later lands beyond it. The current game is A Realm Reborn, the 2013 relaunch that replaced the troubled 2010 original, and it has since added several expansions, most recently Dawntrail.

The main scenario quest carries a long, heavily voiced story through each expansion, and dungeons, trials and raids are woven into it. A single character can switch between every combat job, as well as crafting and gathering classes, simply by changing weapons or tools. Endgame includes Savage-difficulty raids and other top-tier fights, alliance raids, PvP, a player-driven market board, housing and a long list of side activities.

The free trial covers the story through Shadowbringers with a level cap. Beyond that, the game requires a purchase and a monthly subscription ($12.99 Entry or $14.99 Standard). It is played on Windows, macOS, PlayStation, Xbox Series X|S and, since 2026, Nintendo Switch 2, with cross-play.
