Torn

A long-running text-based crime RPG set in a lawless city, where players build stats, run businesses, join factions and trade with each other.

Overview

Torn is a text-based multiplayer game set in Torn City, a modern-day metropolis run on crime. Created by British developer Joe Chedburn in 2004, it is played in a web browser, with companion apps for iOS and Android.

Players spend regenerating energy and nerve on gym training, crimes and attacks, then branch into whatever path suits them: running or working in companies, trading on the item market and stock exchange, travelling abroad to import goods, racing cars, gambling in the casino or hunting bounties. Progress is slow and steady, built around short check-ins spread through the day.

Factions are the core social unit, organizing chains, territory wars and ranked wars against rival groups. Torn is free to play; optional donator packs and points, which can also be bought from other players with in-game money, add convenience perks.
